Order Order Anodizing Service Online

Anodizing converts the surface of aluminium into a hard, corrosion-resistant oxide that is part of the metal rather than a layer sitting on top of it. Unity Manufacture runs Type II decorative anodizing and Type III hardcoat anodizing to MIL-A-8625, in clear, black and a full range of dyed colours, on CNC machined parts, extrusions and sheet metal assemblies.

What sets Unity Manufacture’s anodizing service apart?

  1. Both Types In-House: Type II decorative and Type III hardcoat run on the same line, so you can mix cosmetic and wear-critical parts in one order.
  2. Thickness Verified: Every batch is measured with eddy-current thickness testing, not estimated from bath time, and the readings ship with your parts on request.
  3. Masking Before Racking: Threads, bores, grounding faces and datum surfaces are masked by default when you flag them on the drawing.
  4. Colour Consistency: Dye lots are controlled and reference plaques are retained, so repeat orders match the parts you approved the first time.
  5. Corrosion Tested: Salt-spray testing to ASTM B117 is available for qualification batches, with results documented against your specification.
  6. Engineering Support: We calculate dimensional build-up before quoting, so you know exactly how the oxide will affect your fits.

Advantages of Ordering Anodized Parts from Unity Manufacture

back in time

Fast Turnaround

Type II anodizing ships in 3 to 5 business days and Type III hardcoat in 5 to 7, including masking and sealing.

crosshair

Precision

Oxide growth is roughly half inward and half outward. We calculate the build-up per surface and mask or post-machine to keep fits inside tolerance.

Anodizing Options

Type II and Type III are not grades of the same finish, they are different engineering choices. Here is how we help you pick.

Type II Anodizing

The standard decorative and protective anodize. A 5 to 25 um sulphuric acid film that takes dye well, and the default choice for enclosures, panels and consumer hardware.

Type III Hard Anodizing

A 25 to 100 um engineering coating produced at low temperature. Chosen where wear resistance matters more than colour, on slides, pistons, manifolds and load-bearing faces.

Natural hardcoat (grey)
Black hardcoat
PTFE-impregnated hardcoat
Sealed hardcoat
Unsealed for paint adhesion

Sealing & Colour

After anodizing, the porous oxide is sealed to lock in corrosion resistance and dye. The seal you specify changes both performance and appearance.

Hot water seal (nickel-free)
Nickel acetate seal
PTFE / dry lubricant impregnation
Black organic dye
Custom colour matching

Masking & Racking

Anodizing does not stop at the edge of a feature. Tell us what must stay bare and we mask it before the part goes into the tank.

Threads and tapped holes
Grounding and EMI contact faces
Precision bores and bearing seats

Custom finishes upon request

Working to a standard that is not listed, such as AMS 2471, AMS 2472 or a customer-specific specification? Send it with your RFQ and we will quote to it.

Overview: What is Anodizing?

Anodizing is an electrolytic process that thickens the natural oxide layer on a metal surface. The part is the anode in an acid bath, and the electrical current grows a controlled, porous oxide that is integral to the substrate. Because the layer grows both inward and outward, roughly half of the final thickness adds to the part and half penetrates it.

Type II anodizing produces a 5 to 25 um film that is primarily decorative and corrosion resistant, and that readily absorbs dye. Type III hardcoat runs at lower temperature and higher current density to build a 25 to 100 um layer that is significantly harder than tool steel and is specified where wear matters. The porous structure has to be sealed afterwards, and the seal choice, hot water, nickel acetate or PTFE, determines the final corrosion performance and coefficient of friction.
